Olympic Weight Plates | VULCAN Fitness

Olympic Weight plates are needed to perform several key compound lifts, such as bench press, deadlifts and squats. For the foundation of your home gym you can never go wrong with an Olympic Barbell and some Bumper Plates for an array of free weight exercises. The standard size for Olympic weight plates is 450mm in diameter, and they come in a variety of weights ranging from 1.25kg to 25kg per plate. VULCAN's Olympic weight plates fit all Olympic Barbells and Specialty Barbells,Β

What Olympic Weight Plates to go for?Β

Bumper Plates - We have 2 different types of Bumper Plates, black and coloured. Both of these have been vigorously tested over the years and can withstand over 15,000 drops from 2.5m high. They have stainless steel inserts, this makes the plates highly durable as the dense rubber absorbs heavy impacts with repeated drops. The stainless steel inserts and the high durability rubber create a weight plate that can be vigorously used and will not break.

Machined Iron Plates - If you love the old school feeling of lifting heavy weights then these are for you, nothing beats the sound if iron clanging together while you go for that deadlift PR. Unlike the bumper plates these are cast iron and have been machined to keep within -+1% of the desired weight. These realistically should not be dropped but can withstand a lot of force even if they are - just be careful of your floors. Due to these plates being completely cast iron they are significantly thinner than other Olympic Plates which can be desirable if you are lifting very heavy weight. These plates are also the most cost effective wayΒ  to load up weight on your bar.Β

TriGrip Plates - TriGrip Plates are a mix of the machined plates and the bumper plates. They have stainless steel inserts and have a steel core with rubber coating which allows them to withstand small drops and still load up your bar with weight. These plates have 3 handles and can be used for exercises such as bicep curls and tricep extensions. If you are dropping plates we would still recommend the use of Bumper Plates.Β
